A Call to End Hunger
No child should have to go hungry, but yet more than 1 in 5 in central Ohio live in food-insecure homes. That’s why ABC 6 and FOX 28 are partnering with Giant Eagle and Huntington Bank, to hold “A Call to End Hunger” telethon, Wednesday, April 26th, from 5am – 11:30pm, a day-long event raising awareness about the impact hunger can have a child’s ability to learn and grow.
ABC 6 and FOX 28 invites the community to help support the Children’s Hunger Alliance, with a gift of $1 a day, or $30 each month. The Children’s Hunger Alliance is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Ohio, and works with child care providers, local schools and community partners such as: libraries and recreation centers, as well as the USDA and the Ohio Department of Education to provide food-insecure children healthy food, nutrition education and physical activity.
“We rely on the support of the entire community to help us reach more at-risk children who are not sure where their next meal will come from,” said Judy Mobley, Interim CEO at Children’s Hunger Alliance. “We are grateful to Giant Eagle, Huntington Bank, and our friends at ABC 6 and FOX 28, who are rising to the challenge of childhood hunger in our community.”
Throughout the event, ABC 6 and FOX 28 will showcase stories about the Children’s Hunger Alliance grassroots efforts in central Ohio, that are helping after school programs, day cares, breakfast program, and nutrition education programs tackle the challenges of childhood hunger. The community’s support is needed to maintain and grow a program that provides hungry children with up to three healthy meals or snacks each day. Viewers are encouraged to participate in the telethon, by calling 614-481-6848.
“Having worked closely with the Children’s Hunger Alliance, I’ve witnessed the effect childhood hunger is having on our community and our state,” commented Stacia Naquin, Anchor, ABC 6 and FOX 28. “I encourage everyone to support the Children’s Hunger Alliance in any way they can.”
“As a parent, it is hard for me to imagine a child not having enough to eat,” said Jamie Justice, News Director, ABC 6 & FOX 28. “We consider it our obligation to the community to provide help to kids in need, so they can have opportunity to learn and grow properly.”
