School Shout Out: Heather Barlow from Jasper Elementary

The nomination came from Heather's mother-in-law and she said that Heather spends a lot of time outside the classroom planning new activities for the kids and also supporting the students in their extracurricular activities like plays or cheerleading competitions. (WSYX/WTTE)

Heather Barlow's first grade class at Jasper Elementary in Pike County does not rest much. She feels that interactive learning is the best way to keep the kids attention and to keep their brains moving.

After recess they often do Math Squats where the students only loudly say the even numbers. Some of the students say that sometimes they do jumping jacks and only count by tens.

Mrs. Barlow said that her third grade teacher did the same thing and that inspired her to be an active teacher. The nomination came from Heather's mother-in-law and she said that Heather spends a lot of time outside the classroom planning new activities for the kids and also supporting the students in their extracurricular activities like plays or cheerleading competitions. Heather said she attempts to make it to all of the student activities to support them.
