Teen honors grandfather by raising money for ALS research through car show
LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (WKRC) - A 17-year-old Indiana teen remembered his grandfather in a very big way.
Logan Lawrence organized a car show and called it Cruisin' to a Cure to benefit ALS.
Hundreds of vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles were on display at the old casino parking lot in Lawrenceburg.
Logan's grandpa, Carlos, died in 2009 from the incurable disease. Logan said he wanted to hold the fundraiser in honor of him and every other family impacted by ALS.
"Me and him were best friends," Logan said. "I saw him every day. Even though I was 9 years old, he meant a lot to me. He taught me a lot of things. We went to the racetrack, we went to car shows together and traveled."
The car show was a big success. Logan said he hoped to get 150 vehicles registered and ended up with 425, and he raised almost $18,000.
