Columbus street gets second repaving since November
COLUMBUS (WSYX/WTTE) —
A west Columbus street has seen a second repaving since November.
Neighbors reached out to ABC 6 On Your Side, upset that crews were back out repaving Helen Street.
A brand new blanket of asphalt had been put down in November. Since the road looked just fine, neighbors wanted to know why.
"My biggest concern is tax dollars," said Toney Madison. "Why are we redoing roads after they were done six months ago?"
The Columbus Public Service department said Helen Street had been resurfaced last fall, but the asphalt that was put down on the west side of the street didn't meet city specifications.
Since it was close to winter, and it was under warranty, the contractor agreed to redo that section of the road in the spring - at no extra cost to taxpayers.
Even better news, when the work is done in a few days, Helen Street will be back on even ground.
