Dad charged with punching daughter, causing miscarriage
Carlos Jenkins is denying all charges and posted his $50,000 bail Monday afternoon.
The case started Saturday when police said Jenkins and his daughter Dejara started fighting over the father of her baby. Dejara's mother told ABC 6/FOX 28 that she and Carlos did not want the unborn baby's father around their house and he was not allowed through their new security system.
Police said Dejara then went to the hospital for ongoing bleeding and she told doctors her father had punched her in the stomach with a "closed fist." Her family said Dejara had complained about bleeding for the last few days but court documents stated, "the assault resulted in the termination of the pregnancy."
Detectives in the case said they have yet to receive medical records or photos that support Dejara's claims. They also said she refused to talk to them when they went to her father's house and arrested him for felony domestic violence Sunday.
Police said protocol in domestic violence cases is to make a quick arrest and then work "backwards" on the case. Detectives were meeting with prosecutors Monday afternoon to determine how to proceed on the case.
Family said Dejara remains at Doctors West Hospital after she threatened to kill herself on Sunday. If it is determined she made up the assault, her mother said she does want Dejara charged.
Court documents state Dejara was seven weeks pregnant.
