Four seriously injured in machete attack at northeast Columbus restaurant
Karen Bass said her dinner out Thursday night turned into a nightmare. She was one of several inside the Nazareth Mediterranean restaurant off Hamilton Road when a man walked in with a machete around 6:30PM and began slashing customers and employees.
"He came in and started beating up on another man, I thought it was a personal thing. Then he just started down the row hitting everybody; people were bleeding," Bass said after she bolted from the restaurant to safety.
Police say several others were hurt in the bloodbath. One was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and had to have immediate surgery.
Micky Zakas has worked for the restaurant for years and is stunned by the attack. "It's been around for 27 years, it has fabulous food, a wonderful owner just an amazing place," Zakas said after she pulled up to work only to learn what had happened.
Police later shot and killed the suspect on Stelzer Road near Easton Town Center. No word yet on a motive.
