Hilliard neighbors were urged to be be on the lookout for a thief who's stealing packages from neighborhoods.

Police identified the thief as Moreno Buenrostro, 22, of Columbus. He was arrested in April.

"I am a single mom, I work hard for the stuff that I have," said Shannon, after a crook was caught on her home security system last week stealing shoes from her porch.

"To see someone come up and steal something, makes me mad," she said.

Shannon learned about the theft, after she received an email alert showing someone grab packages from her porch and take off in a dark sedan. The message was sent from an app connected to a door bell camera she recently installed on her front door.

"That's the reason that I got it," said Shannon, "so criminals can be put in their place."

Hilliard police now investigating the high-heel thefts.

John Lambert with Alpha Protection Systems in Olde Towne East says hi-tech doorbell surveillance can cost a homeowner less than $100.

"As long as you have your wifi at your home, you can install a device and let you know people are at your home without your knowledge."

Security experts say you can protect your deliveries for no charge.

  • Request a signature upon delivery.
  • Have packages dropped off at a neighbor's house or alternative location if you are not home.
