Kasich appoints acting director of Ohio Department of Health
Governor John Kasich announced he has appointed Lance Himes to serve as acting director of the Ohio Department of Health (ODH).
According to the governor's office, Himes served as ODH's chief legal counsel. and has served as acting director earlier in the Kasich administration. Kasich's office said Himes will replace current director, Rick Hodges, starting March 31st. Hodges said he is leaving to pursue new opportunities outside of the administration.
“Rick has been a valued member of our team since the beginning of the Administration and has enthusiastically and adeptly taken on big challenges at both the Turnpike Commission and at the Department of Health. I appreciate his service and wish him and his family well in this new chapter of their lives,” said Kasich.
The governor's office said Himes has been an attorney with the Ohio Department of Health for more than 10 years. His work has focused on environmental health and compliance issues. They added Himes was named General Counsel at the Department of Health in October 2011. Before joining the department, Kasich's office said Himes practiced law in Cincinnati for seven years. He graduated from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree majoring in business and geography and received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law.
Kasich noted Hodges has served as director since 2014.
