Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario is being remembered in a community where he once served as an officer.

"It's a big loss, especially when you know the guy and you have experience with him," said Lithopolis Police Chief Jay Barton, as he talked about DiSario, who volunteered as an auxiliary officer for a short time in 2013.

"He was a dedicated family man, had a large family, proud of his family, bragged about them a lot," said Barton.

The Village of Lithopolis lowered the American flag in front of the town municipal building this afternoon, and officers began wearing memorial bars across their badges.

Before serving in Lithopolis, DiSario also was a part-time Deputy Marshall with the Brice Police and an Auxiliary Officer with Millersport Police.

DiSario graduated from DeVry University in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management.
