Suspect in deaths of Westerville officers released from hospital, taken to jail

The man accused of killing two Westerville police officers has been released from the hospital and will be taken to Franklin County Jail.

On Feb. 10, Officers Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli were dispatched to a 911 hang up on Cross Wind Drive.

When they arrived, authorities said 30-year-old Quentin L. Smith began firing shots at Joering and Morelli.

Officer Joering died at the scene and Officer Morelli died at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

Smith was taken to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center where he was being treated for gunshot after the exchange.

Authorities have charged Smith with two counts of aggravated murder.

Smith is due in court for his arraignment on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
