Man shot and killed near Blacklick overnight

A man was shot and killed near Blacklick overnight Tuesday.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 7400 block of Kirkdale Drive, just north of E Broad St., around 2:30 a.m.

Neighbors told ABC 6/FOX 28 that they heard at least six gunshots. The victim, who was later identified as 35-year-old Kenneth Edward Davis, was rushed to Mt. Carmel East by a friend. That's where Davis was pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m.

One neighbor said he didn't realize the noise was gunshots until police showed up.

"I didn't realize until about ten minutes later," the neighbor told us. "When I heard some people talking outside my window, my bedroom, I got up and looked out and there's like five police cars out here. I come to find out that apparently the neighbor had been shot."

Police have yet to release the identity of the victim. They're investigation has been focusing on a car with its windows shot out. Initial investigation revealed Davis was shot inside the car in an "apparent ambush."

Homicide detectives continued to process the scene. This was the 79th murder in Columbus this year.
