On Your Side: Registering for the new school year
One Columbus mom was spending a lot of time trying to enroll her five-year-old into kindergarten.
"Very, very stressed out, I didn't know what to do," said mom-of-four Nicole Haske.
She reached out to ABC 6/FOX 28. We passed along her information and Columbus City Schools then got in touch with to clear up the confusion.
"I got the interview," said Haske. "He is good to start, he has his interview next Tuesday. We will turn in all his paperwork and we will finally be able to go."
It is good reminder to start enrolling now if you haven't started the process.
"The sooner, the better," said Tonya Freeman, Director of central registration for the district, "come on in and we will get you taken care of."
The place to go is the enrollment center where you can start and finish the process. It's by appointment only, so you start the process at home and set a time online. You can also call, email or come in for help.
"We have people here to assist with doing the computer part or just to answer questions," said Freeman.
Don't make this mistake when you come in: have important documents with you.
"Birth certificate, proof of residence, immunization records, a parent photo ID, if there is any custody paperwork," said Freeman.
One family stopped by the enrollment center to get a soon-to-be 11th grader set to start.
"We decided to come in to see if we could get better than on the phone," said Jada Sherman, who was enrolling her niece, "on the phone we are getting the run around, here we are not."
They wanted to get the process finished with the school year quickly approaching. The district starts extended enrollment hours next week. For more on enrollment visit the district’s website.
