Suspect arrested after SWAT situation closes I-70 for hours

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) —
Interstate 70 has reopened from Downtown Columbus through the east side after Columbus Police closed it during a SWAT situation.
The interstate near Livingston Avenue was within sight of a house where a shooting suspect was barricaded inside. Police officers believe 29-year-old Jamie Broom shot two people Monday night, one in the leg and the other in the mouth.
Officers were called out again Tuesday morning after hearing the suspect was shooting at the victim's cars.
SWAT eventually used tear gas to get inside the house where Broom was eventually arrested and charged with felonious assault. Police said he could face more charges.
"I walked past the house this morning. I didn't know what was going on," said Sierra Bradley who left for school before the shooting started.
Long stretches of I-70 on the east side were closed for about four hours Tuesday afternoon. Those closures caused long delays and backups.
"(It's) real backed up," said Walter Cole who works at Eddie's Chicken and Waffles near the SWAT scene. "(I) can't get across the street. Everybody is coming into the parking lot trying to get around the traffic."
The suspect stayed holed up in his house for hours while a crowd of his neighbors waited outside at the edge of the neighborhood waiting to go home.
"We're all nervous," said Pam Miles who was waiting for the barricade to end. "We got elderly people out here, these kids and these bullets don't know where they're going once they're shooting them. It's just too dangerous."
