Police: Attempted abduction at park by Whetstone High School

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Police are investigating an attempted abduction in the Whetstone neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the Olentangy Trail at Whetstone Park, right in front of Whetstone High School and just south of Henderson Road.

A female student and member of the softball team told police she was jogging before practice along the trail when a man pulled her into some bushes. She said she fought him off and was able to get away.

Police described the suspect a white male, wearing black sweatpants and a T-shirt, but don't believe there's a safety risk to the public.

School officials said they sent out an automated phone call alert to all parents letting them know about the incident. They added the district is reviewing policy to see if they need to change it to ensure more safety precautions.

ABC 6/FOX 28 will have more details on this developing story when they're made available.
