Police search for suspects after two deadly hit-skips
COLUMBUS (WSYX/WTTE) —
Columbus accident unit Investigators said they're continuing to search for suspects in two deadly hit-skip cases in less than 24 hours.
The first happened around 4:15am Saturday morning near South James Road south of Dale Avenue.
Investigators said 28-year old Tarinesha Caldwell was was struck as she was crossed onto the northbound lanes of James Road.
Police said Caldwell died at Grant Medical Center.
Investigators said a witness was able to capture the license number on the Ohio temporary tags on the 2005 Silver Ford Taurus the suspect was driving.
Investigators are also looking into a deadly hit-skip crash that happened around 1pm Saturday afternoon.
In that incident, police said 39-year old Soungoutoumba Macalou was heading northbound on Lockbourne Road when he was struck by the driver of a tan or beige vehicle traveling southbound on Lockbourne Road to Eastbound Watkins Road.
Detectives said Macalou was also taken to Grant Medical Center where he died.
Witnesses said the suspect continued eastbound on Watkins Road after the crash.
"It was pretty bad, there was even a nurse there trying to help" said Ali Maiga who called 911 after the crash.
Police said the cases mark 48 traffic-related fatalities in Columbus this year.
