COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A routine traffic stop turned into a big drug bust for the State Highway Patrol.

Troopers arrested Shirnina M. Bates, 35, and Zevon R. McCurdy, 38, both from Detroit, Mich., for felony possession and trafficking of a schedule controlled substance after authorities seized 2,080 Oxycodone pills from their vehicle on May 2.

A rented 2017 Cadillac XTS with Illinois registration was pulled over on the Ohio Turnpike for a marked lanes violation. Upon observing for criminal indicators, a patrol drug-sniffing canine examined the vehicle and alerted the possible detection of narcotics to his handler. Officials said they found the drugs in a spare tire compartment after a probable cause search.

The estimated street value of the drugs is $68,000, according to officials.

Both are being held in the Summit County Jail.
