Voters in Upper Arlington are being asked to OK higher taxes to replace the high school and renovate or replace five elementary schools. Approval could take UA property taxes from the tenth-highest in Central Ohio the fourth-highest.

District leaders said the current high school and other buildings are outdated, with classrooms that are too small and not appropriate for students today.

"This building was built in a different time and education has changed greatly," said Paul Imhoff, superintendent of the district. The issue would increase taxes $312 for every $100-thousand in house value.

One grandparent of UA students said the increase in tax is hard to swallow, but she will vote for the levy and bond issue package.

"I myself am a senior citizen, I'm on a tight budget," said Lisa Strausbaugh. "But if I have to cut back in other ways, I will."
