Man dies after officer-involved shooting in Whitehall
A man was killed after an officer-involved shooting in Whitehall Friday morning.
He was later identified as 28-year-old Ledarren Mixon.
Police said Mixon was accused of selling fentanyl laced heroin. While conducting a search warrant, officers said he was armed and was shot during a confrontation. He died from his injuries at the hospital.
Five other adults and two children were also in the home, according to police, and were safely removed.
“This was an extremely dangerous location for officers and the community,” stated Whitehall Police Chief Mike Crispen, “a resident was selling heroin and fentanyl from the home where children lived and were present. The presence of fentanyl required all officers to be checked for contamination. Any loss of life is unfortunate and out of respect for all families involved, we are not releasing names at this time. This incident will be investigated by the Columbus Division of Police, an outside uninvolved agency."
Police say Mixon was arrested in 2007 and charged with trafficking in drugs and served eight years in prison after being convicted of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and theft in 2008.
Officials said no officers were hurt.
