Students invent machine that charges phones by recycling plastic bottles
COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) - Students in a Kentucky High School invented a machine that charges phones by recycling plastic bottles.
Dropping in a bottle is like payment for 15 minutes of phone charging time. The machine uses less energy to charge than a normal outlet and the savings get bigger as more phones are plugged in to the machine.
A student explained, "And then you take a bottle, place it down the slot in the machine and it's going to trigger power to all 32 of these USB ports across the front."
With the project the students were encouraging recycling, adding phone outlets, and saving power.
They did get school credit for their work.
