Complaints Lead to Amber Alert Changes

Updated: Friday, March 15 2013, 07:42 PM EDT

COLUMBUS -- You won't have to worry about getting an Amber Alert in the middle of the night anymore.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said some people complained after an alert was sent out around 6:30 Wednesday morning about two girls kidnapped in West Virginia.

The girls were later found safe and sound, but the sound of the alert woke up many people.

All new cell phones are automatically signed up to get the alerts.  It's part of a national alert system that can be used for emergency presidential messages, extreme weather warnings as well as Amber Alerts.

You can opt out of receiving the alerts if you want.
