COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Ohio investigators are in the process of examining thousands of untested rape kits in an effort to provide justice for victims across the state.
Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification workers are testing more than 3000 kits from 91 law enforcement agencies. Rape kits are administered to victims of sexual assault in an effort to find a suspect's DNA.
Investigators said 1165 of those kits have already been tested, yielding 322 DNA matches.
B.C.I. officials have received more than 1000 kits from Cleveland, and hundreds from Cincinnati, Toledo, and Akron -- but only 11 from Franklin County.
Officials from Columbus and Franklin County have yet to publicly state the reason for the comparatively low number of kits.
