Genoa Township Officer Assaulted

DELAWARE COUNTY -- A Genoa Township police officer, 39-year-old Lieutenant Greg Yurkovich, has been assaulted near Sunbury and Maxtown roads in Delaware County. 

This happened just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday when Yurkovich saw a white truck that looked suspicious at Red Bank Harbor.

He was confronted by the two people and that's when he was assaulted and knocked out. 

His fellow officers found him face down in a field near Hoover Reservoir.

Several sheriff`s departments and police officers are looking for two suspects who are on the loose. 

The suspect vehicle in described as a white box van with temporary tags. 

Two men wearing all dark clothing are considered dangerous and to use caution.  One was described as "heavy set."

Yurkovich was knocked out and unresponsive at first, but according to medics he is now alert and responding to commands. 

He is at Grant Medical Center.  In a tweet from Genoa Twp. Police they say the officer is currently is in non-life threatening condition.  He does have a severe concussion.

The Genoa Twp. Police Chief says the officer who was attacked is semi-conscious at the hospital.
