Former Buckeyes thrive in opener of The Basketball Tournament
PEORIA, IL -- 64 teams began a quest for a winner take all $2 million dollar prize Saturday at Bradley University.
Ohio State is one of the schools fielding a team of former greats including Jared Sullinger, Aaron Craft and Dave Lighty playing in The Basketball Tournament.
The Scarlet and Gray knocked off The Region, 78-63 thanks to the balanced production of Sullinger, Evan Ravenel, Lighty and the defensive prowess of Dallas Lauderdale.
“I think it went pretty much how we expected," Craft told Scout.com of the team's first game of the tourney. "You can practice and talk all you want but you don’t come by the game speed and game-like situations in practice. I think it took us a little bit to get our second wind. We made some mistakes and there’s definitely things we have to work on, but I’m excited with how we played."
Sullinger led the team with 18 points in addition to grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. Dave Lighty and Evan Ravenel both scored 13 points while Craft added 10.
The former Bucks advance to a Sunday afternoon game in the single elimination tournament.
The Championship game is August 3rd at 7 pm in Baltimore, MD.
