Crew SC can't stratch on the road, losing 2-nil in New York
NEW YORK -- The homestanding Red Bulls mounted an offense that netted two first half goals and New York disposed of the Crew SC, 2-0 Saturday night.
The Crew effort was negated by a pair of injuries. Midfielder Artur went down early with a wrist injury. Defender Alex Crognale left with a right ankle injury as well.
Federico Higuain made his 125th regular-season start for Crew SC in tonight’s match against the Red Bulls. The Argentine playmaker signed with the Black & Gold as a Designated Player on July 27, 2012. To date, Higuain has made 129 total appearances while recording 40 goals and 39 assists.
Goalkeeper Zack Steffen recorded an MLS career-high five saves in tonight’s match against the New York Red Bulls. This was the fourth consecutive match in which Steffen recorded four or more saves, for a total of 26 saves through eight matches in the 2017 MLS regular season.
Tonight’s match was the 66th regular-season meeting between Crew SC and the Red Bulls. Despite the loss, Crew SC currently has 13 points and a record of 4-3-1 through the first eight games of the 2017 MLS season, the club’s best start since 2011 (3-1-4, 13 points).
