The Football Fever: Former Buckeye Berry remembers battles vs. Brady
COLUMBUS -- Former Ohio State safety Gary Berry was 1-3 against Michigan but his lone win came at the expense of future star Tom Brady, who won his fifth Super Bowl title against Atlanta Sunday.
The Buckeyes beat Michigan, 31-16 in the Shoe in 1998 despite Brady's prolific passing numbers, 31 of 56 for 375 yards.
After his Ohio State career, Berry was on the same team with Brady in the East-West Shrine game. "It's funny once you get to know someone and they're not what you thought or how the media portrayed him," Berry told ABC-6. "With the OSU-Michigan rivalry you're supposed to hate them but it was awesome getting to know him."
Berry actually had an interception of Brady in the 1999 game against Michigan but the play was overturned by penalty.
