ASHLAND, OH -- Adam Shaheen is on the verge of a very big moment.

The Ashland University tight end is expected to hear his name called, perhaps in the second or third round round of the upcoming NFL draft, which begins Thursday night in Philadelphia.

The 6'7", 278-pound Shaheen started his athletic career as a scholarship basketball player at University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, but he never lost his love of football. He attended an Ohio State football game and knew "I wanted to hit somebody again."

He walked on at Div. II Ashland and over the last two seasons caught 127 passes for 26 touchdowns, prompting a rush of NFL scouts to the Northern Ohio school.

Shaheen studied finance at Ashland and currently has a 3.8 GPA with four credits remaining to graduation. He was especially fond of his participation in the Eagle Investment Group, a group of students who manage the school's $1.4 million endowment fund.

"That was one of other reasons that I came here," said Shaheen.
