Witness Talks About Madison Co Shooting & Suspect Expected in Court

MADISON COUNTY (Maria Durant) -- A witness out of Saturday morning's shooting at a Madison county truck stop is talking says he talked to the two suspected teenage killers.

Seventeen-year-old Devonere Simmonds and 18-year-old Nathaniel Brunner are both charged with murder.

Simmonds is expected to come back to Franklin County from Dayton today and Brunner is expected in court this morning.  He was brought back Monday.

Police say they are involved in the shooting of a store clerk last Wednesday night.

The witness did not want to be identified,  says he and a friend pulled over at the Travel America to get gas.

He says the suspects asked him if he was going to Columbus because they wanted a ride.

"I said no,  and then the guy they shot walked in the gas station store right behind me."

The witness went to pump gas and that's when he heard the shot.

He says he saw the victim, William Rudd lying on the ground with Simmonds and Brunner staring down at him.

The witness and his friend left in the car and called police.  He says he didn't know what to do.

He's thankful the two have been arrested, but says he's having trouble coping with what he saw.

"I've seen bad things before, but nothing like this,"  He says, " I just don't feel safe anymore."
