COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The focus right now for the Columbus Central School Board is figuring out who will be the district's next superintendent. The board is still in the process of breaking down the pros and cons of the three candidates.
What you may not know is the superintendent's post is not the only top spot with an uncertain future. ABC 6 did some digging and discovered two other top cabinet posts also need to be filled. The treasurer for the board, Stan Bahorek, is calling it quits. The board of education said his contract expires at the end of July.
Bahorek spent the past 28 years as the district's treasurer/CFO.
Also out the door is the board's internal auditor, Carolyn Smith. She resigned back in January, so that means her office is still empty.
The three positions are right at the top of the pyramid for the district.
The big question is whether the key vacancies will cause issues for the district. Here's what the board said:
"The board understands that these direct-report positions are vital to the organization. In the short term, the board is confident in the staff responsible for temporarily carrying on these work functions until they make their selections.”
The hiring process for the auditor and the treasurer will start in the next few weeks.
By then, we should know who the new district superintendent is. But the work to fill out the team will be far from over.
