Woman's body found off rural road in Madison County
Questions remained on how a 26-year-old woman died.
Her body was found lying on a Madison County road Thursday.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said a body was found lying on State Route 323 in Range Township around 7:30 a.m.
Seth Downing lives next to the scene.
"There was some people standing in the road down right here and something was laying in the ditch, like white. It looked white to my neighbor.”
What Downing saw was the body of 26-year-old Kelsey Maynard.
"You read about it. You hear about it on the news in the city or elsewhere," said Downing. "You think [in a] little town or village like this it's not going to happen and you wake up one morning and there it is."
According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, the Montgomery County coroner’s office performed an autopsy on the woman. Preliminary information revealed no evidence of foul play, a struggle, or cause of death.
"It's very alarming, very scary,” said Downing.
Authorities said Maynard lived with her parents, not far from where her body was found. The 26-year-old was last seen at home on Wednesday around 9:30 p.m. Her parents told investigators it's not unusual that their daughter walked in the area.
The mystery surrounding the young woman's death has people like Downing concerned.
"I have three kids of my own and when something like this happens close to home, like this, it kind of really sinks in,” he said.
Investigators were waiting for additional information, including toxicology results.
