COLUMBUS (WSYX/WTTE) — Police responded to a report of a shooting at Easton Town Center Thursday afternoon.
One woman was shot and taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
Columbus Police say the shooting happened inside the Victoria Secret Pink store after 2 p.m. Thursday.
Cameron Jackson was near the store shortly after the shooting.
"First there were two young girls running full speed and then there was an older one and I'm like 'alright, I don't think she should be running just for leisure and that's when all the cops starting swarming.'"
Jackson pulled out his phone and recorded the aftermath.
CPD says the victim is Daneshia Elmore and the suspect in the shooting is 22-year-old Anikqua Williams. Williams has been charged with felonious assault.
Columbus Police say the woman was shot inside the PINK store, which is in the outdoor section of the mall.
Authorities say they were able to get to the mall within two minutes after the shooting thanks to the mall’s security features, which include high tech cameras.
"They see what's going on in real time. We have special duty officers out here on duty at all times and you also have pretty large contingent of security,” explains Deputy Chief Thomas Quinlan.
Officials with Easton Town Center say they have security plans that include working with Columbus police and have their own security guards. The shopping center also has a code of conduct that prohibits firearms of any kind. Violators could be banned, arrested, and even prosecuted.
Authorities hope this incident is a wake up for call for people to find other ways to resolve conflicts,
"One person is looking at a lengthy jail sentence perhaps. Another, years of recovery. It's not worth a dispute over whatever had them upset,” said Quinlan.
PINK released a statement about the incident:
The safety of our associates and customers is our number one priority. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured individual. We continue to cooperate with the local authorities on their investigation.
