Church to use Halloween party to help kids learn about violence prevention
Halloween is supposed to be fun, but an R.I.P decoration inside the Word Church of God in Christ has a message of meaning.
The youth department is preparing for a different kind of Halloween party that will be held inside the church on Saturday. There will be games, candy, several activities and violence prevention information.
With several deadly shootings in Columbus this week, church members want to make the community safer. One of the goals for the party will be made visible on Halloween cards children and youth will make.
Each card will say: "Please don't make a bad choice that will take you from me or take me from you, I love you to life"
"They’re going to give these to their parents and guardians. If we cannot get it through to the adults to stop the violence, we definitely want to start with the youth, " said Austin Parker, the Youth Leader at the Word Church of God in Christ.
Parker says children and youth who attend the Halloween party will be put in different role play scenarios that will help them learn about violence prevention.
The party will take place inside the church which is located at 115 Wilson Avenue in Columbus.
The party starts at 5:00 p.m., and is free to the community.
