COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Columbus police were among the agencies at a Brown County landfill Wednesday after a woman's body was found there.
The Rumpke Landfill is located southeast of Cincinnati, off of US 68.
A woman who may have been killed in Columbus could be the victim found in the landfill, but police are not releasing details yet.
"We have recovered a human body here at the Rumpke landfill. I can tell you the investigation is ongoing," Columbus Police Commander Mark Denner said.
Denner said they are gathering information and will share more Thursday.
Rumpke said the body was discovered Wednesday before 9 a.m. WSYX has learned that investigators have been searching the area for the past few weeks.
Federal court documents filed last month for a Columbus man charged in an unrelated gun case state he confessed to killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in a dumpster. The man has not been publicly charged with murder as of Wednesday.
ABC 6/FOX 28 is not releasing the victim's name until police make their official confirmation that she is the body found in Brown County.
Her body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for an autopsy.
