Motorcyclist identified in deadly I-270 crash near Gahanna

A deadly accident caused I-270 to close on the east side Thursday morning.

The accident happened before 8 a.m. on I-270 southbound at I-670 near Gahanna.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Daniel Jones-Quartey, of Columbus, was operating a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle when he struck the rear of a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by 28-year-old Austin Welsh of Westerville. Jones-Quartey -- who officials said was wearing a helmet -- was pronounced dead at the scene. Walsh -- who was uninjured -- was wearing his seat belt.

Southbound lanes reopened by 12:30 p.m. The sheriff's office later said that a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a compact SUV.

The incident remains under investigation.
