COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Columbus Division of Police released additional body-cam video on Thursday from the other officers who were at the scene of the Andre Hill shooting.
Hill, 47, was shot and killed on December 22, 2020, by Columbus Police Officer Adam Coy.
Investigators said Hill was unarmed. Coy has been fired.
This is the third round of body-cam video that Columbus Police has released from the night of the fatal shooting.
Initially, the Columbus Division of Police released Coy's body-cam video from the incident. The officers' body cameras were not turned on until after the shooting took place, but video was recorded through the cameras' rollback features, but no audio of what led to the shots fired is available.
Then on New Year's Eve, CPD released additional body-cam footage from other officers at the scene. The footage showed the aftermath of the Hill shooting. Officer Amy Detweiler's body-cam video was released by CPD. Detweiler was at the scene with Coy.
Hill's memorial service was held on Tuesday. Reverend Al Sharpton, with the National Action Network, gave the eulogy.
“We are not against all police. We are against bad police but good police ought to be against bad police because they make you look bad,” said Sharpton.
“Andre’s blood is crying from the ground. And we are not going to accept excuses this time. Police are not above the law. You are subject to the law. You are supposed to enforce the law,” said Sharpton.
The Hill family's nationally known lawyer Ben Crump also spoke at the memorial. He's calling for Coy's arrest.
"They now knew he was unarmed. Why handcuff him? What was his crime,” asked Crump before the mourners and guests. We have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," said Crump. “America that means Andre Hill too. America that means Andre Hill’s life matters. America we will demand justice. For Andre Maurice Hill,” Crump said.
Hill’s grown daughter Karissa told the mourners on Tuesday, “he was my gentle giant. I called him my rock. He was my support. He was my best friend,” said Hill. “This is very sudden. A void in my heart I will never get back.”
Columbus Police said the body-worn camera recordings related to the 12/22/2020 incident at 1062 Oberlin Dr. assigned to the following Division personnel:
