COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Inside the "Woodlands of Columbus" assisted living home, the atmosphere on Thursday was like a celebration.
"No cake and ice cream, but it's like a party," said 75-year-old Linda Wyckoff.
The residents are getting their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. And for many, it's the first time they've been around others in months.
"I've been in my room for so long, this is just like a reunion," said 96-year-old Lottie Wycoff.
For 81-year-old Evelyn Pinner, she says she rolled up her sleeves because she wants to be able to be around her family.
"I have a lot of grandchildren and a lot of great-grandchildren and I want them to be safe around me. My family is very important to me. "
72% of 55 residents received their vaccinations so far.
As for staff, so far only 18 out of 46.
The management at Woodlands of Columbus says some staff members are still very cautious about getting the vaccine. But management believes they'll likely turn around and get it when Walgreens returns in February for the second dose.
For Pinner, she says the vaccine is an answer to her prayers.
"It's very scary to hear on the tv about all of the people dying. I pray every day that it goes away," said Pinner.
