COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A man has died after he was shot while trying to break up a fight Friday evening, police say.
Columbus Police said the shooting happened around 8:25 p.m. Friday at 2101 Schenley Drive.
The victim, 54-year-old Earl Simmons, was trying to break up a fight at the time when several weapons were drawn and a shoot-out began, witnesses told police.
One of the bullets struck Simmons, fatally wounding him. He was transported to Grant Medical center where he died less than an hour later.
He is the 45th homicide in Columbus in 2021.
Police have not yet announced any suspects.
