Hilliard honors teen battling rare brain tumor
HILLIARD, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A teen battling a rare, cancerous brain tumor was honored at Friday night's Hilliard Davidson High School football game.
Sixteen-year-old Leanna Ramirez was diagnosed with the brain tumor in March 2017. Since that time, the teen has been in and out of the hospital.
"Two 12-hour brain surgeries to remove the tumor, most of it is removed. There's some residual in her brain stem and she's receiving radiation at the James,” said John Ramirez, Leanna’s father.
Before Friday night’s game, Ramirez spoke to the Hilliard Davidson football team offering words of encouragement. The team returned the favor. Each team member handed the 16-year-old a yellow rose. The show of support was moving for the high school student.
"It's kind of nice to know that even though I don't know a lot of these people, that they still are supporting me,” said Ramirez.
A crowdfunding campaign has been put up to raise money for Leanna’s medical expenses.
