Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced his candidacy for Governor.

Husted (R-Montpelier) served in the Ohio House of Representatives before becoming Secretary of State. He was elected Speaker of the House twice.

Husted and U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci are the only Republicans currently in the field. Attorney General Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor are also expected to join the Republican field.

On the Democratic side, former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, former state Rep. Connie Pillich and state Senator Joe Schiavioni have all entered the race as well.

The primary will be held May 8 and Ohio's next Governor will be elected November 6. Governor John Kasich can not run again because of term limits.
