Man crushed by granite slab in west Columbus identified by police
A man has died from injuries sustained when a granite slab fell on him in west Columbus.
The incident happened at Unique Stone Concept near the intersection of International Street and Roberts Road on the city's west side around 10:58 a.m.
Police said the man, who was identified as employee Robert Schofield, was working in the rear of the property when a safety pole gave way, releasing the granite onto him, police said. Officers on scene said other workers found Schofield and they had to use a crane to get him out.
He was rushed to Mount Carmel West Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died a short time later.
