COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — March 1st marked the state deadline to return students to class in exchange for early vaccines for teachers and school staff.
In Central Ohio, not every school made that deadline but has announced dates within the next month for an in-person transition. Schools are also one month away from the state’s deadline aimed at making up learning loss from remote learning.
The governor wants plans by April 1st that could include extending the school year, lengthening the school day, or starting the next school year early.
Columbus City Schools has yet to file extended learning forms to the state but administrators say kids can make up work this summer.
“If for some reason they cannot complete their credit recovery prior to spring graduation, we roll those students over into summer,” said Alyse Clark with the CCS Curriculum Division. “We have the summer graduation as well.”
CCS started registering students Monday for its six-week summer programs. That includes partnerships with Columbus Parks and Rec, Franklinton Park Conservatory and COSI for the younger kids Older kids can also earn college credit and high school credentials.
