Mark Wahlberg's business partner talks Columbus dealership, potential restaurant

With Hollywood coming to Columbus Thursday, customers have been pulling up to Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet on West Broad Street.

For years of the Bobby Layman jingle was everywhere, making it one of the most well known dealerships in the area.

Layman died a few years ago.

    But, signs are changing, literally.

Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg and business partner and longtime Chevy dealer Jay Feldman now own the Columbus landmark.

The duo have an Ohio tie.

Feldman, who is CEO and owner of one of the largest Chevy dealers in Michigan, started up a friendship with the Hollywood star when Wahlberg was shooting a movie in Michigan.

Soon, Feldman got involved in the Wahlburgers restaurant chain.

"I got involved with him in the Cleveland location and then happen to spend some time with him on a movie set in Boston, and we started talking about the car business," said Feldman.

The duo started looking at dealerships and opportunities, landing in Columbus.

"Obviously this is his first parlay into the car business, and what's unique about it for me is that he is one of the most famous actors in the world," said Feldman.

Wahlberg even posted a video about the venture on his Facebook page Thursday night.

"With hard work your dreams come true, I've always been a car fanatic," Wahlberg told fans in the video.

The plan is to keep up the dealership's good reputation and grow.

"Great opportunity for both of us and for Columbus," said Feldman.

He said a Wahlburgers restaurant could be a possibility for the area as well.

"We are looking around the Columbus area for Wahlburgers, maybe even something right here," said Feldman.

For longtime employees it has been an exciting few days.

"They are wanting to get things switched and ready to go," said John Tackett, who has worked as the service director for about twenty years.

"We are already getting calls, when is he going to be here?" he said.

The team plans to hang Wahlberg's movie posters inside and to have a grand opening soon.

Feldman said they are still working out an exact date, but said Wahlberg does plan to be there.

Feldman also said the team is hiring technicians and sales staff.
