New monument to honor Gold Star families
This weekend, many of us will pay tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. But there's a group that sometimes gets forgotten, so some Grove City Officers are changing that.
Sergeant Chris White and Officer John Darnell combined their efforts to help build the "Gold Star Families Monument."
The two were challenged by Medal Of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams. His foundation wants to put these monuments up in all 50 states.
"You don't tell a medal of honor recipient 'no' when he gives you a challenge like that," said White.
The monument pays tribute not only to the men and women who serve, but to the families who have lost their loved ones.
"The pain continues with the families, because they're left. When the flags are put away and the bands go home, the family is still dealing with this loss forever," said White.
"Now they don't have to be alone," Darnell said.
The memorial will be unveiled to the public Monday with Williams in attendance.
