COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Even on a dreary, wet day, Air Force ROTC cadets at Ohio State University stood guard as part of a vigil to pay tribute to the husbands and wives of fallen service members.
April 5 is National Gold Star Spouses Day.
An armed guard stood watch, marching by a red, white, and blue wreath with gold and purple in it.
The marching symbolizes readiness. Gold stands for support and solidarity. The purple is in honor of those who have received a Purple Heart.
Cadets marched from 7:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m., similar to the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.
