Police identify man killed in nightclub shooting in southeast Columbus

One person was pronounced dead early Saturday morning, after a shooting on Eastland Square Drive on the southeast side.

Columbus Police dispatchers confirmed that the shooting was reported at 1:06am. When police arrived on scene, they found a single victim outside a nightclub, with gunshot wounds.

Johnathan Smith, 31, was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:18 a.m.

Police believe that an altercation occurred inside the club involving Smith and an unidentified individual which eventually continued outside when an unknown suspect shot the victim and fled in an unknown direction.

Officers remained at the scene to investigate later into Saturday morning. There is no word on a suspect or anyone in custody.

This marks the ninth homicide for 2018.
