Person in critical condition after shooting near downtown Columbus (WSYX/WTTE)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Police are investigating a shooting that sent a person to the hospital near downtown Columbus Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Caldwell Place where police said they found the victim around 3:15 p.m. The victim, 20-year-old Tere'l Tatum, was taken to Grant Medical Center.

Police said the shooting took place a block away in the 400 block of N. Monroe Avenue as Tatum was walking by Monroe Alternative Middle School. He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, but later upgraded to stable.

Police said the suspect was seen running from the scene. Details of their description has yet to be released.
