Police: Columbus man shoots himself in the foot after allegedly assaulting employee

    A Columbus man is behind bars after police say he assaulted an employee inside of an auto store on Friday.

    According to the Columbus Division of Police Facebook page, at 5 p.m. officers responded to a shooting and an assault at Advanced Auto Parts at 3730 South Hamilton Road.

    The store clerk told police that Curtis Thompson, 51, became upset with an employee and punched him two times. Thompson allegedly reached into his waistband to retrieve a handgun when a store employee tried to stop him from getting the weapon.

    Thompson fired one shot, which struck him in his own foot.

    He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition and was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
