Suspect arrested after active shooter reports near Akron

BARBERTON, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A suspect has been arrested after reports of an active shooter near Akron Tuesday night.

According to WEWS, Barberton Police received reports of a man armed with an assault rifle in the area of Barber Road with initial reports of shots fired around 7:30 p.m. The suspect was taken into custody approximately 2 hours later.

Police say no one was hit as it happened down the road from Barberton High School. The school, which has hosting a wrestling event, and its sports field, which were holding were football practice, were evacuated. Area streets were also shut down, WEWS reported.
