Police are investigating a brutal beating they said happened in Franklinton Sunday morning.

Detectives said William Taylor was hit repeatedly in the head with a large object.

He was found along Rodgers Avenue Sunday morning. Police said Taylor died the next day from a head injury.

Joseph Williams, 51, is in jail accused of Taylor's murder.

According to the criminal complaint, Williams used a large metal or wooden object, possibly a police or board to beat the victim.

Neighbors who live in the area said they are fed up with all of the violence.

Most of Rodgers Avenue is filled with boarded-up vacant houses. One family said they are the only house that still puts up Christmas decorations. The family is known for their large Christmas displays every year and said they hope it brings some joy to the neighborhood.

"I love it , I mean. I'm the only one on this street who does this. We used to have a couple neighbors, but as the years went by they just stopped decorating. The kids will come up and down the street and ask 'when you putting your lights up?' I'm like, 'soon, soon, soon,'" said Michele Parker, who lives in the neighborhood.

As for the homicide, detectives said they aren't sure what the motive was as they continue to investigate. Police said they're unsure if the victim and suspect knew one another.
