PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio – A pilot has died after crashing a small plane in the backyard of a Portage County home, FOX 8 reports.
Citing confirmation from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, officials said a single-engine plane from a local airport crashed in Shalersville Township -- approximately 30 miles northeast of Akron. They added the pilot was the only person on board.
Officials told FOX 8 the family wasn't home at the home of the crash, but when they returned they discovered the wreckage and contacted authorities.
The FAA is on the scene along with local fire, police and sheriff officials and are expected to be there, according to FOX 8.
