Search committee announces two finalists for Columbus Police Chief

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther announced Thursday that the search committee for the next Columbus Police Chief has narrowed its search down to two finalists for the position: Thomas Quinlan and Perry Tarrant.

Thomas Quinlan, who is currently serving as the Interim Police Chief, City of Columbus Division of Police.

Perry Tarrant is the former Assistant Chief of Police, Seattle Police Department in Seattle Washington.

“These two candidates best represent what we are looking for in our next Police Chief – a transformational leader, change agent, innovator who will achieve excellence using the model of 21st policing,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Dawn Tyler Lee who is leading the search.

Mayor Ginther also announced a public forum for residents to meet the two candidates. That event will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 6 pm at East High School, 1500 E. Broad Street. The public forum will be livestreamed.

In February, Mayor Ginther announced community involvement and a nationwide search for the next chief after former Chief Kim Jacobs retired in February.
